Thanks John. This is by far the best looking finish I've gotten when using tung oil. They don't usually shine this good. I think I put on 8 coats of oil on it.

It sure does shine. I thought it was a ca finish before I read it.

The Tung Oil is an interesting finish, wet-looking and thick.
Sorry, I missed this one when I was 'looking around', but if I may....how many coats of Tung were used?

I've been playing with shine juice..
One part BLO One part clear shellac One part denatured alcohol
Mixed results some woods like it and some don't.
May try tounge oil Do ya buff it in or what?

Al, I just wiped it on with a paper towel. First few coats soaked in and looked dull after drying. Last 2 coats looked really good. I had an issue with runs in the finish. Had to keep sanding it and putting more coats on to fix it. I ended up putting 8 coats on with a light sanding between each one. Let it sit over night to dry. Sometime longer. Took me almost 2 weeks to finish this call. I was in no hurry though.

Do you use a sanding sealer? I've been playing with that to...it's supposed to save on sandpaper and it does...if you sand with the large off.

I just started a couple months ago....on bowls. If ya run the lathe to sand the paper clogs. Hand sanding seems OK. The only benefit I see is it takes less coats of finish.
