Been collecting all the pieces to actually make duck calls....
Picked up the cheaper Wood River 1-1/4" collect and their 5 collet just recently. For the money, it looks to be the exact copy of the twice as expensive Beall.... Have plans to order a 5/8" straight shaft expanding mandrel, this coming Friday. Already have plenty of 'stock' to spin, both wood and acrylic(PR).
Stuff like these: Poly Resin -
American Persimmon -
The troubling part is I know nothing about custom jigs, nor would I know if a certain one is better(thinking used)? Can a fella 'get by' while learning using Echo inserts?
And for the bands? Anyone have a better idea then Echo's?

Seems the bit-o-snow we had yesterday and into this morning here didn't stop the USPS fella from pulling up to the mailbox on time! Considering there has been no snowplow sightings in this town since time began, that would say something for the postman.
Anyway, received six(6){not sex} single reed inserts, complete with cork and reeds. And three each of brass and stainless rings(ferrules, or whatever the correct vernacular would be). It's a little late to bother with heating up the shop, and I suspect the 'one-that-must-be-obeyed' would like to spend some time with me in the same room tonight might have issues with me disappearing.
I'll get started tomorrow....nice having a four day work week.
