o.k. I have a question about using laminated/dyed birch wood, once I've turned a call what should I use to seal it, and then will it be on safe to use as a closed reed call. there is a caution about cutting and turning it that it is none to cause cancer. is the company just covering there @##.

Just because people are allergic to so many different things and there is probably somebody that is allergic to a 2x4. I like to dip my calls, some use ca. I just prefer the dip because it is then sealed completely. Pretty damn hard to get ca up in the very center of the inside of a call unless maybe you pour it in. If it's an oily wood you can use acetone and then dip it. I did try a piece of cocobolo that is oily and isn't suppose to take the dip. It's been on my lanyard for about 5 years and looks as good as the day I made it. I use polycrylic water based. oil based will discolor and the water based is thinner and dries in a few minutes under a fan and you can add several layers to get a glass finish. It costs $56.00 a gallon atleast here it does but a gallon usally last me about a year and if it starts to thicken up you can add water to it to thin it back out.
