What do you as makers like best as far as sound and tone! Slate or glass and if Glass what type ? beaded ,Clear ,Blasted! please help me if possible I do not want to waste my time using something that will not give me the tone and sound needed for the buyers out there for field grade Pot calls. I will mainly be making most of my calls out of Red Cedar as I have a good supply of it and like the looks and I make my own Sound boards out of it as well that work very good! Thanks for any and all help!

Slate or Glass...... The important part is the striker....what I mean is I get a Lot of turkey calls sent to me to try...... and the biggest problem is there aint but maybe two of them that have the original striker with them as they sound better with someone elses striker..... If you aint got the sound right.....find the right striker. I think slate purrs a little better and glass is harder to dress the surface right......but the glass is a lot better in the rain and such. M2C I have killed a heck of a lot of turkeys with a lot of different calls... Turkey calls used to be the only thing I made for a time and folks still send them to me to use....I dont mind at all I try and kill with all of em.

Thanks Al I think I will just go with both and as you say Strikers will be the key I have a fellow I trade Cedar with that makes strkers and he uses many different wood types so will just have to see which striker works best with each individual call . Man I love this site People actually anwser your Questions I hope I am allowed to be here for the Long Hall so hope You all can put up with my Ramblings

Alot of things can effect the sound of a pot call but like the guys have said, the MOST important thing is the striker. One pot and 5 different strikers can give you basically 5 different calls

With all the above said then does any one have preference on wood used to make the striker? Repeat
