Thanks for trying to help Al, But when I said I was dyslexic with numbers that was an understatement, I would have more chance understanding the Swahili language than a ohms calculator Now if you had said you need X amount of 30W solar panels and X amount of batteries to run a 240v freezer I would have been real grateful lol Den.

Its easy... Volts would be for me a 12v system. 12V marine batteries
Ya need two values for the calculator to work so if you look at the liable on the back of say your fridge it will say perhaps 172 watts
So you enter 12V and 172 watts.... Ya get 14.333 amps per hr. If your battery bank is say 1900 amp hrs you take 1900 divide by 14.33 and ya see ya get....132 hrs.. Which is in realistic but it is made up values for an example.

I think I have grasped it Al, I am amazed at the amount of solar panels and batteries I would need just to run a fridge, Taking into account cloudy days of which we have lots, Reckon I am gonna hafta rethink my strategy as I havent got that amount of money spare for all that stuff..
Thanks for your help tho,
Den.

Its getting cheaper... I've found 180w panels for less than $300 I figure in another year I can run a 2000w system at the cabin for around $1500 if prices keep dropping.

The guy up the road installed one of those huge wind generators. He finally figured out his savings. He is 40 now. If he never has to replace anything he will break even when he's in his 80's. LOL. He's already had it laying down for repairs twice this year. Guess he's gotta live to be in his 90's now to break even.

I've been off grid at cabin for going on 5 years now... I only have a small system and will upgrade... So far its been $100 per year total including the system... I think its worth it...especially if you get enough to get a check back each month.

I had a small system at my bugout place but some lowlifes busted in and took anything of value so I beefed up security and they came back again and cleaned me out, Heck they even took my log burner, I got another thats now set in concrete and believe it or not if them perps get injured taking my stuff I could get sued, It seems a man cant protect his property here..
